Why you need to be DEDICATED to achieve success

Being an employer, a managing director, a director and just generally someone in business, you start to see really quickly why some people make it to the top and most people don't.

The one thing I cherish about myself is my dedication - not only to running a business, writing articles, directing, acting or writing a script, but to everything important in my life.

If a friend asked me to help them in some way, I will give them 100% every single inch of my attention. If I'm given a task I get it done, that's why I've done so well in all the places I have worked.

Myself and my sisters are the exact same. We nail every interview, impress every boss, and meet every target.

So it has always boggled my mind that there are people out there who just coast, who do little or no work but expect the benefits.

It can be so hard to see other people in the same industry or trying to get into the industry who really make little or no effort.

I say "hard" because I always can see a person's true potential. But without dedication, without hard work, they will never reach their goals.

People ask all the time "why do only some people make it?". I think there's a few reasons. One of them being your mind set.

As I mentioned before I'm a huge fan of The Secret and I really do try to live by it. I think if you believe you can do it - you can. I believe if you decide what life you want - you are going to have it... all if you are willing to dedicate your life to making it all happen.

I have been dedicated to my job since I was about 16. No matter what job I was in I was dedicated to it.

I was the first one in, the last one out, I reached all my targets (probably to the annoyance of other people on my team) but I wanted to be the best I could possibly be, all the time.

I always went the extra mile, went a little outside my job description and valued every brand I worked for as if I had created it myself.

I have always been that way, and I will never change.

Recently a friend said to me they loved the way I work because no matter what I say no matter what I tell people I want to do - it always happens.

Some of my ideas may sound crazy, but they always come to fruition.

I may sound like a dreamer, or say I can achieve the impossible or at least extremely unlikely but I always do. Because I'm dedicated to being the best I can be.

So many people ask me how do I find time to sleep?

When I'm not working on my business or editing the site, I'm planning my TV show, I'm writing a script, I'm auditioning for roles, I'm writing a book.

I guess being a workaholic will do that to you, but to me that just means I'm dedicated to achieving my dreams.

It's the same with everything I do in my life. I wanted to be a journalist... so I became one. I wanted to act in films, so I went to auditions and got roles.

I wanted to move back to Dublin so I did... I wanted to go to LA so I did... I wanted to go to the Oscars, so I did... I wanted to go to Dubai (you get where I'm going with this).

But I know there are some people who just "don't get" me. Why I can't just be happy with one career.

Why I want to delve into the world of film and TV when I'm already on the other side of the red carpet.

But I just don't buy into any of that, I think you can be whoever you want to be. I don't understand why people set limits for themselves and for others.

The amount of problems I have had from friends and colleagues in the past becuase I take a lot of selfies... yes SELFIES.

It's caused conversation in a few different groups and I don't get it. If a friend of mine shared a selfie I would be the first to like it, but not everyone feels the same.

Sorry... not sorry! I like taking selfies

I'm all about pushing up other people's confidence, motivating others, cheering people on, but a lot of people (especially in Ireland) are the complete opposite.

When I think about it it's quite sad. I don't focus on what other people are doing because I'm so busy working on my future.

And the right people, the people who are also achieving their dreams and work hard, they are the ones who don't mind.

I take selfies because I want to take selfies. I'm a creative person and I like to be creative, I'm not going to stop taking photos or writing tweets because a few people don't want to see them.

If you don't want to hear what I have to say, or see what I want to show you, then don't follow me, don't friend me.

I write scripts because I want to write scripts. I started showbiz journalism because I knew I wanted to be the best showbiz journalist, I started a business because I knew we could be the number 1 showbiz site in the country.

Every decision I make is because I want to do it. Shouldn't everyone do the same?

Dedication isn't just about focusing on the task at hand, it's about focusing on yourself, and believing in yourself because who else will?

You need to be dedicated to the cause to succeed in whatever it is you want to achieve... and YOU are the cause because you are the woman/man behind the idea, the passion, the talent.

You need to be dedicated to making yourself a better person, to keeping yourself motivated as much as you need to focus on your business, your script, your tasks and your staff.

Bottom line you need to look after YOU. Without YOU there is no business, there is no idea, there is no dream.

So to all the people wondering why they haven't made it, why they haven't made the leap or achieved the dream they've been thinking about for years... which person are you?

Are you floating on by and JUST dreaming, hoping, wishing, not actually getting stuck in to creating your future?

Are you re-writing your Facebook status because you don't want to be judged? Are you staring at other peoples selfies and getting annoyed?

Or...are you getting shit done??

This blog is called Werk Bitch for a reason...
